University of Denver | COMM 4144: Multimedia News Release Assignment
*This is a MOCK campaign created only for this class.*
In the COMM 4144: Public Relations Principles and Process course I completed at the Univ. of Denver (Winter 2018). I choose the Rocky Mountain Regional Veterans Administration Medical Center in Aurora, Colo., for my semester project. The hospital has been in the news for the past ten years including negative press, congressional hearings due to over budget, opening years later than planned and questionable leadership. The RMRMC will open this August.

Rocky Mountain Regional Veterans Affairs Medical Center |
AURORA, CO (Feb. 18, 2018) - The Replacement Medical Center for the Veterans Affairs Eastern Colorado Health Care System has a new name, the Rocky Mountain Regional Veterans Medical Center according to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. The VA also confirms the new medical center will open August 11, 2018 in Aurora.
The new 12 building, 1.2 million-square-foot medical complex sits on a 31-acre site and will include several parking garages and a community living center to serve the 407,616 Colorado veterans. According to Turner Construction, “the new facility features expanded telehealth, polytrauma, and traumatic brain injury programs.” Additionally, the “Department of Defense’s medical services will occupy the entire fourth floor, as well as diagnostic and treatment facilities, ambulatory care clinics, research laboratories, support facilities, and 182 inpatient beds in acute care, critical care, mental health, and rehabilitation. The facility is also home to a as well as a 30-bed spinal cord injury clinic.”
“The United States Army Corps of Engineers is completely committed to the success of this project for our Veterans and for those who serve them” said Col. John Henderson, Omaha District Commander.
Twenty years ago, the VA started discussions regarding the need of a new hospital for Colorado veterans. In 2010, ground broke to start building the medical facility and this summer the state of the art hospital will open to serve those who have honorably served our country.
The Veterans Affairs Administration was created by Executive Order 5398 when President Herbert Hoover signed the legislation into law on July 21, 1930. Some of the programs the VA offers are health care and medical services, post-traumatic stress and suicide prevention and the Homeless Veterans Initiative. The VA strives to fulfill the promise of our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, “To care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow, and his orphan.”
